District Judge Michael QuintTOPEKA — Judge Michael Quint of the 25th judicial district has been appointed to sit with the Kansas Supreme Court to hear oral arguments in one case on the court's 9 a.m. docket Wednesday, October 26.

After hearing oral arguments, Quint will join Supreme Court justices in their deliberations and opinion drafting.

"I am pleased that Judge Quint is taking time from his duties in the 25th judicial district to sit with the Supreme Court," said Chief Justice Lawton R. Nuss. "It's a great help to our court and we look forward to his contributions deliberating this case."

Quint practiced law in western Kansas for 19 years, and he has been a district judge for 23 years.

"I appreciate the opportunity to work with members of the Supreme Court," Quint said. "Over the years, I have got to know and appreciate the quality of persons that have served on the Supreme Court, and I look forward to seeing how processes are handled behind the scenes."

All Supreme Court oral arguments are webcast live through the Watch Supreme Court Live! link in the right-hand column of the Kansas Judicial Branch website at www.kscourts.org.

The case Quint will hear is the fourth one scheduled on the Supreme Court's 9 a.m. docket Wednesday, October 26:

Appeal No. 115,250: In re Bruce C. Harrington, Respondent

Original Proceeding Related to Attorney Discipline: (Disbarment) In one case, Harrington charged nearly $31,000 to the estate of a couple whose last wills and testaments he had prepared. After his fees were challenged by the beneficiaries, Harrington reached a settlement and returned $10,000 to the estate. In another case, Harrington deposited proceeds from a savings bond into his trust account, but was later unable to pay the proceeds to the beneficiaries. The hearing panel concluded that Harrington had violated several provisions of the Kansas Rules of Professional Conduct and recommended immediate temporary suspension of Harrington's license and that he be disbarred.
