District Court Judge Daniel DuncanTOPEKA—Wyandotte County District Court Judge Daniel A. Duncan will retire January 9, after 28 years on the bench.

Duncan had a private law practice before he was elected judge in 1989. He was re-elected six times.

"It has been an honor to serve the people of Wyandotte County," Duncan said. "I am grateful and humbled by the trust and confidence they have placed in me, and I hope I have served so as to earn their appreciation. I hope everyone who appeared before me felt they were treated fairly and with respect."

Duncan is a past president of the Kansas District Judges Association and the Wyandotte County Bar Association. He has been active in committee work for both organizations. He also was a member of the statewide Access to Justice Committee.

"I look forward to this next chapter of my life, but leaving all my friends and coworkers is bittersweet at best," Duncan said. "I have been blessed to work with highly qualified and dedicated public servants throughout my career. I retire knowing the courts are in good hands."

In retirement, Duncan plans to remain civically involved in his community and to spend more time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
