Judge Caleb StegallTOPEKA—The Kansas Supreme Court announced today that Judge Caleb Stegall will be sworn in as justice on the state’s highest court in a December 5 ceremony.

Currently, Stegall is a judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals. He will use the time between now and his swearing in to complete his work for that court.

“It will be a tremendous honor to take a place on the bench alongside my new colleagues on the Kansas Supreme Court,” Stegall said. “I look forward to getting to work.”

Stegall will begin to hear cases the Monday following his swearing in during the high court's December docket. The court does not have a November docket.

Governor Sam Brownback selected Stegall August 29 from three candidates recommended by the Supreme Court Nominating Commission.

Stegall will replace Nancy Moritz, who left the court July 28 to serve on the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
