TOPEKA—Hon. William B. Elliott, chief judge of the 17th Judicial District, will sit with the state Supreme Court Wednesday, September 15th, to hear appeals in five matters on the Court’s docket.

The Supreme Court appointed Judge Elliott to join them in place of Chief Justice Robert E. Davis, who died August 4th. Judge Elliott is currently completing his ninth year as a district judge. He has been chief judge of the 17th Judicial District, which includes Decatur, Graham, Norton, Osborne, Phillips, and Smith counties, since his election to the bench.

He will hear oral arguments five criminal cases and then participate in the high court deliberations and opinion drafting.

Chief Judge Elliott graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1972 and then graduated from the Washburn University School of Law in 1975. He was in private practice from 1975 until he became a judge in 2001.

A native of Hill City, Judge Elliott and his wife, Kay, have three children: Nate, Pittsburg, PA; Valery Rule, Hays; and Libby Nickelson, Hill City.
