Commission on Judicial Conduct

The Commission on Judicial Conduct was established to help the Kansas Supreme Court exercise its authority in judicial disciplinary matters.



Purpose

The Commission on Judicial Conduct was established by the Kansas Supreme Court on January 1, 1974. It was created under authority provided the Supreme Court by Article III, Section 15, of the Kansas Constitution. 

The commission is charged with helping the Supreme Court exercise its responsibility in judicial disciplinary matters. The Supreme Court established rules related to judicial conduct, which apply to all judges in Kansas.

Search Rules Relating to Judicial Conduct  

All members are appointed by the Supreme Court for four-year terms. No member may serve more than three consecutive four-year terms. However, a member initially appointed to serve an unexpired term may then serve three consecutive four-year terms after serving through the unexpired term.

Commission members are grouped into two panels, and one panel meets each month. The commission chair is the chair of one panel and the commission vice-chair chairs the second panel.

Annual reports

The commission publishes an annual statistical report that summarizes the numbers and types of complaints filed for investigation. The reports do not address particular cases but provide they do provide a broad overview of the commission's work, including the steps involved investigating complaints.
